More surfing (in 85 degree water)

It does not get any better than this, we just got back from a little side trip to the Caribbean and now back on the west coast, the water over here on this side is about 85. Crazy!
So I geared up my water housing for my camera (its been about 12 months since I've used it!) and headed out to catch all of us surfing. I think that Luke won the "coolest shot" today. Here are just a few fav's I wanted to post as I'm sleep-typing. Its late and I need to get to bed, we wake at 5:00am to hit it up and surf again in the morning.

Tonight, we surfed under moonlight and not only was that super cool, but it(water & air) was hot too! I cannot believe how soothing it was. It felt about as warm as when your in bed in the morning, and you don't want to leave the warmth to get up. Dan & I came paddled out last, wishing we could stay out all night and surf!

Always gotta get the self portrait!

Just as we were about to drive away , the moon came out above the clouds and lit up the night sky! We ended up taking photos for about 20-30 minutes and came away with some sweet ones, I think this is one of my fav's. Camera Details: ISO 1250, Shutter speed 1/2 second to one second, and the aperture was at 2.8. I was laying on the sand to get the shot. It was surreal tonight. God painted the most amazing sunset and moon rise at the same time. For a Photographer, having the same quantity of light come from opposite horizons was pretty cool!

Have a great week...

Surfing...

Costa Rica is known for its warm water (80 degrees) and its excellent year round surf. When the rest of the world seems to shut down, Costa rica, gets offshore and amazing. Surfers from all the world travel here, from the lineup, you can hear many different languages; Italian, Spanish, English, Portuguese. Its a very cultural experience. We have had some medium size, but fun surf!

Here is Luke Llamas dropping in with a sweet bottom turn.

Enjoy, I'll post as much as can, as there is little down time out here in adventure land!

p.s. thanks chloe for getting me a water while i wrote this, you have a servants heart!

Horse Racing!

This was way to much fun! video

Playa Hermosa, Jaco, Las Olas...

So today was day 3 of our time here. I really love Costa Rica, here are a few of the highlights over the last couple days. I'm having a blast with my new Canon 5D Mark II, I shot video while riding horses today, galloping at full speed on the beach. Ok, that was a bit crazy, but the footage is cool! This kinda makes me appreciate the guys who lived out in the old west. I love riding horses and it was a fun to hang out the six of us and do that today. Costa Rica is normally VERY lush, but this is the end of the dry season and its a bit dryer than normal, but the good thing about that is the mosquitos are at a low!

Its so refreshing after having endless days traveling and working to take some time to spend with my wife and friends. When your surfing, or doing whatever you love, your mind does not even think of work, phones, emails, you just get to enjoy the moment for real. I love that. There is not enough time in the world to spend doing only this, because, vacations end. But I do get filled up and love the inspiration and memories from this trip.

I've been taking thousands of photos for fun and I feel like my love for what I do is being refined. I can't wait to make a huge collage of Costa rica and make it a 40x60 canvas for our house. Remembering good times and being thankful for them. Today I talked to a local for a while during a surf session, and he was so nice, sharing his heart for his homeland, and how he gets to live here and surf every day. I guess I do the same talking to tourists who come to California. It made me appreciate where I live.

Arrived in Costa Rica

Today we arrived here and its as amazing as I remember it. First things first, buy food for the house, and then surf! We paddled out for an evening surf session and had some fun waves. Dan got a sweet barrel.
